What does strategy mean in a Notion template?

Most small practices do not need a strategy document; they need to know which part of the operation is weakest and to fix it deliberately. The Matter Method frames this as six pieces (Matter, Actions, Time, Team, Evidence, Research), each with a one-question test. The weakest answer is your next project.

How do you build a simple plan in Notion?

   Score the six tests

   Answer each piece's test honestly as yes, partly or no. Note the date.

   Pick one piece

   Choose the weakest, or the one whose failure would hurt most, for the next quarter.

   Write one outcome

   For example: every matter has a named lawyer and a next step by the end of the quarter.

   Add the outcome as a matter-less action

   Give it an owner and a due date in Actions, so it is tracked like any other commitment.

   Review monthly

   Open the dashboard, check progress and re-score at quarter end.

What can the dashboard tell you?

These are views of your own data. They are only as good as what you enter.

What MatterOS does not do

A worked example

Suppose a two-lawyer firm scores itself: Matters yes, Actions partly, Time no, Team no, Evidence partly, Research no. Rather than fixing everything, they pick Actions because a missed date is the costliest failure. For one quarter the goal is that every open matter has at least one dated, owned action. They run the weekly review, fix gaps as they find them, and re-score. Next quarter they take Time. Progress is slow but visible, and nothing depends on a big-bang rollout.

Write the plan on a single Notion page linked from the dashboard, with the scores, the chosen piece, the outcome and the review dates. A plan nobody can find on Monday morning is not a plan.
