# Connecting MatterOS to your other tools

MatterOS itself does not ship integrations: it is a template, so it connects to other tools the way any Notion workspace does, through Notion's built-in connections, forms, database automations, Notion Calendar and Mail, and its API. Decide what must be connected, keep authoritative records in the system your rules require and link rather than copy.

## Key takeaways

- Connections come from Notion, not from MatterOS.
- Prefer links over copies: one authoritative record, linked from the matter.
- Automations can notify, create and update records; they do not replace review.
- Check what each connection can read before enabling it on client data.

## What can a Notion workspace connect to?

| Need | Notion option |
| --- | --- |
| Collect enquiries | Notion forms that create database entries |
| Email notifications | Database automations (the send-mail action uses a Gmail account) |
| Calendar | Notion Calendar shows dated databases alongside your calendars |
| Chat and notifications | Connections such as Slack, with plan limits |
| Files | Links or embeds from your document system |
| Custom integrations | The Notion API and integration tools |

## How should you decide what to connect?

1. List the handoffs: Where does information leave or enter the matter: intake, documents, billing, calendar?
2. Keep the record where it belongs: Documents in your document system; money in your accounting system.
3. Link from the matter: Put the link on the matter or evidence entry.
4. Automate only the repetitive part: Notifications and record creation, with a person reviewing.

## What about security?

Every connection is a new place data can flow. Review what each connection can read, restrict it to the pages it needs and keep a short register of what is connected. Check your professional rules before connecting client data to third-party services.
